To meet this goal, in addition to offering one-on-one reading therapy, CAL Reading Clinic also offers training to teachers and other interested individuals so that they may implement Phono-Graphix in their classrooms or private practices.
In the past twenty years, leading researchers have shown that the following issues are critical to learning to read: • Auditory Processing, which is the ability to segment, blend, and manipulate individual sounds within words. • Code Knowledge, which is the awareness and understanding of the sound to symbol code used in the written English language. • Cognitive Strategy, which is what one does to try to read. Examples of poor strategies are: guess, use picture clues, and memorize whole words. The appropriate strategy is to sound words out based on the code. |
